Abstract
This project aims to develop a low-cost air bearing and possible applications in various rotating machines. The intention is to significantly reduce energy dissipation due to friction. The air bearing is considered a promising solution in the current scenario of growth of the sustainable energy sector, more specifically in wind generation. For this, stages of analytical dimensioning and 3D computational modeling. All the steps of the manufacturing of this bearing will be carried out at the teaching institution (Cefet-RJ Campus Nova Iguaçu), taking into consideration that it has machining, welding, transport phenomena and other laboratories available for support to student and teacher projects. Studying the operational conditions of the air bearing at different speeds and temperatures, as well as evaluating its mechanical resistance and heat dissipation capacity, are fundamental procedures. It is expected to obtain a low-cost bearing, but of high durability, which can be safely applied in various rotating machines, thus contributing to the reduction of costs and improvement in energy efficiency. Therefore, at the end of this project, it is expected to obtain an air bearing that is capable of supporting the mechanical, thermal and dynamic loads imposed by its applications. In addition, it is desired that the bearing is low cost and easy to handle, thus being an effective alternative to existing solutions. Thus, the result of this project will contribute to the technological development of the area of rotating machines, allowing the obtaining of more efficient machines with the use of this new air bearing.
