Abstract

The study performs an analysis of equations developed by researchers who contributed to the studies of fluid mechanics, by carrying out practical experiments and using them to compare with the results obtained through analytical methods. Perhaps it’s the best way to understand how they arrived at such methods known today. The main idea of this research is to compare the practical data, with the equations developed by Darcy-Weisbach, Colerbrooke-White and the Moody-Rouse diagram, to obtain the friction factor when performing calculations for head loss in hydraulic systems. Practical data can be obtained through a hydraulic experiment with closed feedback, which starts from a water tank that passes through a hydraulic pump where it has a considerable increase in speed, following a flow through PVC pipes, which, at certain points of that circuit there are geometric unevenness causing head losses in the hydraulic system and finally returning to the water reservoir. As a way of obtaining some necessary inputs for carrying out the calculations, a flow sensor was used at the final output of the circuit to obtain the value of the water speed, the liquid used in the experiment. The values read by the sensor can be viewed through a PLC. At a certain point in the circuit there is a variation in the piping material, starting from PVC to acrylic, which changes the roughness of the internal walls, consequently changing the shear stress between the fluid and the piping, thus allowing a comparison between the two types of materials. The roughness of the materials was obtained using a roughness tester. To finish obtaining the experimental data necessary to carry out the comparison with the analytical data, a micro manometer was used to obtain the values of the pressure taps in the circuit, thus making it possible to verify the error between the analytical method and the practical method. Thinking about the whole idea developed for the research, it is evident that the need to repeat the experiment will be extremely important to reach a refinement of the results obtained, mainly because it is a study of the behavior of a certain fluid.
