Abstract
This article aims to describe a simple analysis of chip formation frequency at machining lathe operation based on metal removal rate and strain rate under some variations of cutting speed and feed. This investigation is a subject presented on manufacturing process classroom of production and Mechanical engineering courses and all the detailed mathematical and physical modeling are executed by the students on a mixed of theoretical and practical class. The results presented are about to consider classical physics to describe a technological issue and it helped the students to understand both aspects. The theoretical physics became easier to be applied on a technological matter with this method of analysis. In the same way the technical details of the machining operation helped the comprehension of advanced topics usually restricted to advanced solid mechanics and plasticity. The results collected on classroom are in very good agreement with published results of chip morphology and chip frequency strain rate.
