Abstract
Torsional vibrations are inherent in the operation of rotating machines, which is one of the leading causes of mechanical failures. This work analyzes the torsional vibration of a crankshaft of a single-cylinder reciprocating compressor. The shaft is modeled by a continuous nonlinear system, considering the inertia variation of the crank-slider mechanism with rotation. At first, it is considered a linearized version of the system by assuming that the mechanism inertia is constant. Then, the nonlinear system with non-constant inertia is considered for the analysis. Results show that the systems present similar behaviors for low values of crank length and excitation amplitudes. On the other hand, the response exhibits nonlinear effects for higher crank length values and excitation amplitudes.
