Abstract
Incremental sheet forming is a recent technique wich allows solving several problems of conventional stamping, such as the the expensive matrix and the difficulty of customizing components. Incremental single-point stamping is a dieless forming process suitable for producing small batches of parts and has shown great potential for forming components with complex geometries using simple low-cost tools. Potential areas of application include the aerospace industry, biomedical applications, rapid prototyping and metal forming for the automotive industry. Duplex stainless steels have high corrosion resistance, good formability and mechanical strength after forming, in part due to the transformation of austenite into martensite during cold forming. This work aims to evaluate the effect of feed rate and tool rotation parameters on the roughness of 304 and 2205 stainless steels formed by incremental sheet forming. Cold rolled AISI 2205 and AISI 304 steel plates were used, both 0.5 mm thick. The materials as received were mechanically characterized through tensile and hardness tests. Increment of 0.3 mm, helical path and Quimatic 1 lubricant were used fr all tests. The feed speeds of 250 and 750 mm/min were chosen, while the values of 30 and 120 RPM were used for the tool rotation speed. The surface roughness of stamped parts was measured using an electronic roughness meter with a cutting range of 0.8 mm, in accordance with ABNT Standard 6405/1988. The increase in the tool rotation speed caused an increase in the average roughness in both materials, while the increase in the feed speed caused an increase in the roughness of the 2205 steel and a reduction in the roughness in the 304 steel. The 2205 steel presented a roughness increase lower than that of 304 steel, and consequently obtained a better surface quallity.
