Abstract
The development of systems for structural health monitoring (SHM) has been desired to many researchers and companies around the world in the last years. Commonly the techniques in literature involve the post processing of output signals measured after applying an excitation force on the structure. However, details for the physics behind the interaction of the elastic guided waves generated by these actuators and a damage keep almost without understanding. In this sense, this present article discuss the interactions of elastic waves with asymmetric corrosion faults. The state vector formulation is used to define relations between reflected and transmitted longitudinal and transversal waves. Numerical simulations are carried out and the results improve the comprehension of this phenomenon. In this sense, the proposed approach offers promise for developing SHM systems.
