Abstract
The present work describes a didactic device developed for the demonstration of the two-dimensional stress state, which comprises a thin-walled pressure vessel. For this, the equipment was instrumented with strain gauges at several points. The strain measured by the strain gages in points away from nozzles and soldering points were compared to the classical theories, also compared to analyzes suggested by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Finite Element Method (FEM), in addition to validating the knowledge relevant to the Mechanics of Materials courses. As a complement, strain gages located near the nozzles, weld strands and support can check the effects of existing bending and compressive stresses. The results of the work showed divergences between the approaches smaller than 6%, thus demonstrating the consistence of the theoretical concepts of the classical mechanics. It was also possible to emphasize the importance of safety concepts for projects, while in the critical points experimental and numerical analysis indicate higher stresses than theocratical one.
