Abstract
Subsea pipelines when installed on irregular ground, present the free span scenery and suffer from sea
current actions. Due to these free spans, the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) phenomenon occurs, which causes fatigue
in the structures and compromises the service life of the ducts. In this work, the commercial software ANSYS FLUENT
was used to study the hydrodynamic coefficients. For the simulations two cylinders were used in tandem for a distance
of 3 diameters, D, of the cylinder, and the Reynolds number was 2x104. The distances between the cylinders and the
surface are represented by the ratio e /D, and this was varied in the range of 1 Computational Fluid Dynamics, Vortex-Induced Vibration, Free Span, Subsea Pipeline Keywords
