Abstract
This paper presents a numerical model of the dynamic response of arbitrarily-shaped piled structure. The structure was modeled using classical finite element formulation and the piles were modeled using the thin-layer formulation of embedded pile groups. The coupling between the two systems was obtained using direct kinematic compatibility and equilibrium at the interface between the two systems. The method is used to analyze a representative example of rigid structure supported by a group of piles.
