Abstract
The CFD simulation of multiphase flows through spray nozzles is a very important topic currently in the worldwide literature, as there are many methodologies being utilized for such case. However, a lot of them are very computationally heavy or not accurate enough. In the present work, a complete framework for the simulation of such case is presented, in which the spray is first modeled using a Euler-VOF method from with the primray breakup is accounted. Following that, the droplets that fall behind a defined mesh size treshold are converted into Lagrangian entities and carried out as such. Evaporation due to thermic and mass transfer is also accounted in both Euler and Lagrangian frameworks. Further algebraic models are implemented in order to continue with the calculation of secondary breakup for the Lagrangian entities. Such complete methodology is presented for a case of a spray inside a circular pipe common in the oil refinery industry.
