Abstract
This paper focuses on the development of a 2-DOF model to study the torsional dynamics of a slender structure subjected to friction. The model is calibrated with the data from an experimental setup composed of a DC motor and two rotating inertias connected by a slender shaft, with friction resulting from the operation of a brake acting over one of the inertias. Different scenarios are evaluated, where friction follows different mathematical descriptions. In all cases, the parameters of the low-dimensional models are inferred using a neural network. Finally, the results are compared with those obtained with a different technique based on a black-box model.
