Flexible piezoelectric cantilever under Vortex-Induced Vibrations

Abstract
This paper proposes an analytical modeling of a piezoelectric energy harvester. The system is constituted by a cantilevered flexible polymeric cylinder molded over a beam. The beam is covered by an upper and lower layers of piezoelectric material, connected in series to a resistive element. The harvester is considered to exhibit geometric linear behaviour, linear elastic effects of the piezoelectric material and linear coupling to a power harvesting circuit. The excitation of the system has its origin in Vortex-Induced Vibrations. The hydrodynamic loads are introduced by wake oscillator models. Numeric simulations will be performed for analysing the cantilever displacements and electrical power harvested.
