Abstract
Any engineering application is susceptible to fault occurrence which can cause a major damage on processes. To detect this faults, classic methods can be used, such as fixed threshold or structural residues. This paper discusses the application of detection fault theory using the ATLMS, an adaptive threshold technique, with structured residual generation. The efficiency of these techniques will be evaluated by an receiver operating characteristic curve, which can be used as a performance metric to the true positive and the false positive rates, showing the better way to detect faults.
