Abstract
The spectral element method (SEM) is a computational tool that has been successfully used in the model and evaluate wave propagation in structures. Considering that strain is an important metric of the material, and when associated with a load (static or cyclic) it can be applied to predict static failure or fatigue phenomenon. This work used the SEM to evaluate the dynamic strain FRF. The SEM is used to model an undamaged homogeneous and isotropic beam. The strain frequency response function (SFRF) is applied to predict the dynamics structure behaviour of the beam under strain meaning. The proposed model is validated by comparison with an experimental simulation presented by Silva (2011).
