Abstract
Along the time, as environmental protection laws has been improved in several countries, putting even more pressure on companies to be environmentally friendly. Consumers have done their part, becoming more aware, starting to demand information about the economic, social and environmental impacts that generate the products they buy. Polluting or socially irresponsible companies have lost market share. Therefore, more and more, the demand for evidence of sustainable management by the manufacturing industry increases. Thus, currently, there is a great demand for a management method that can reconcile the creation of value with the socio-environmental aspects. The objective of this research is to create a methodology for evaluating sustainability performance, capable to comparing and classifying, with a focus on sustainability, the different types of metal cutting processes. The proposed method will allow a generalized view of the aspects to be considered in the evaluation of the processes, making the companies able to deal with the greatest complexity of decision in the current scenario. It is also noteworthy that the decisions resulting from the present method must be supported according to the concept of the triple bottom line, which simultaneously contemplates the economic, environmental and social parameters. Finally, the methodology created was applied in the intermittent saw cutting process.
