Abstract
The machining process without cutting fluid, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), cryogenic cooling, high pressure fluid and biodegradable vegetable oils have been the object of study for some authors, since such practices contribute to sustainable production. In this understanding, this work proposes the study of the milling of 1020 steel using equipment developed at the Machining Laboratory for the MQL application method to evaluate the surface roughness of the workpiece. The experiments were carried out using a coating cutting tool, three cooling lubrication conditions (without fluid, semi-synthetic fluid and synthetic fluids) and constant cutting speed (230 m/min), feed per tooth (0,19 mm) and cutting depth (1 mm). Results revealed that the semi-synthetic fluid provided the lowest roughness values and the system used to apply the MQF method comply with the function.
