Abstract
Several factors can affect the fabrication and assembly of metallic structures, such as those inherent to the manufacturing process, equipment, welding parameters, consumables, and the type of shielding gas. Distortion is the main parameter that affects the quality of the metallic structure and obtaining evaluative resources of the normative limits is significant for the industrial branch where the folded structural sheet is used in its production line. Industries widely use sheet metal bent in ASTM A36 steel to obtain high quality welded joints and for this the distortion needs to remain within reliable limits. Thus, this work aims to present a method for distortion analysis, called the laser scanning technique, especially for the MAG welding process using the Motoman UP6 robotic arm. In view of this, an ASTM A36 steel profile in bent sheet U type 100x50x3.04 mm was welded by the MIG/MAG process, in a butt joint, using the AWS ER70S-6 electrode wire in the 2G horizontal position. In this process, four types of experimental joints were used (with and without dotting), gas shielding of 75%Ar-25%CO2, and welding parameters that allowed keeping the current density constant. The three-dimensional scanning method was used to evaluate the distortion in the welded joint, by which, based on the punctual displacements of the specimen, the distortions and behavior due to the welding heat transferred by the welded joints were evaluated. The result is presented through a color gradient, with displacement values graduated in millimeters on the surface of the sample. Regarding the results obtained, it was found that the distortion showed a displacement of less than 0.45 mm on the surface of the sample. The ASTM A36 steel showed deformation close to the bead, greater than the edges and due to the profile typology, the flanges present resistance, restricting punctual translations producing similar visual aspects after cooling of the specimens. The method evaluated to improve the efficient way to be implemented in a robotic system.
