Abstract
Damage detection is an important branch of engineering, whose main objective is to guarantee structural safety. However, most conventional methods of identifying damage are known, and do not provide well-known results, which in some cases make them impractical. In this work a study was developed on the detection of damages. The damage identification problem in this work is treated as an inverse problem, which combines finite element method with intelligent computational methods to obtain the best possible answer. To optimize the built objectives, the Lichtenberg Algorithm was applied, which uses concepts of random growth of clusters in nature. The algorithm is used to identify the location and size of circular holes in a composite plate. The algorithm calculates the natural frequency of the material according to its properties, and as there is a change in that frequency, it obtains to converge the search, enabling its location. The advantage of such an algorithm is that it can be applied to the structure continuously to monitoring its integrity. The content developed in this work contributes greatly to the technological development of structural integrity monitoring.
