Abstract
In a time when the market has encouraged and driven companies to offer a product or service in a differentiated way, breaking paradigms, technology and optimized production cycle are pillars that must be ahead to obtain a value result. This is because the competitiveness and survival of these industries are conditioned by varied thoughts, permission to error and rapid reaction in search of assertiveness. The science of welding provides several alternatives of electric-arc processes and such processes are enabled to produce a whole union. In this context, the present work proposes to compare 2 manufacturing processes of a structural beam of locomotive. One made by the hot rolling process and the other by the welding process, using in both cases an ASTM A-572 grade 50 steel. For the sill beam welding, will be used the submerged arc process (SAW), with partial penetration requirement. It is hoped to obtain similar results for both manufacturing processes, however the sill beam from this type of locomotive has never been manufactured by the welding process, and this innovation will offer a new construction method, which will facilitate the fabrication of this component that is often difficult due to the need of an extensive laminator not existing in the Brazilian industry, implying the importation of the rolled beam. Will be performance macrostructural, microstructural and mechanical tests in the welded standards coupons that meet international standards and for comparison will be performance the characterization in rolled sill beams samples.
