Abstract
Situations in which methods are sought to improve the mechanical resistance of materials that are usually used in civil constructions, such as concrete, are very frequent. An effective way to obtain such improvements in an efficient and sustainable manner is by adding organic materials into the mixture of the cement, gravel, sand and water, which, lately, becomes the concrete. In the case of concrete, it is possible to understand that certain components are added thereto in order to increase, mainly, the rate of the compression resistance, since this product is found, most of the cases, in situations that a large amount of compressive stress is required. Based on this idea, it is formulated the hypothesis that some materials such as sugarcane bagasse may be part of the group that contributes to this mechanical improvement due to several factors related to its specific properties. Based on the importance that this study has, especially in the civil area, as it can affect positively to the process of improvement of concrete properties, the project aims to verify in a practical way the viability of the use of this new material, based on the results of resistance that each mixture with different percentage of sugarcane bagasse presented after they were submitted to a certain level of compression. The methodology for this study is based on the text of open literature available from experimental studies. Therefore, after the analysis of the values of compression resistance for the addition of 7,5% and 15% of sugarcane bagasse, based on the total cylinder mass, it can be concluded that between the two of them, the one that presented the greatest resistance, 389,54 kPa, was the concrete with addition of a lower percentage of sugarcane bagasse, instead of the other one which presented a resistance of 198,25 kPa.
