Abstract
It is well known that nowadays, governments, localities and companies are adopting measures with the growing objective of substituting fossil fuels with less pollutants. In this scenario, biodiesel has become a good alternative in the use of diesel, because of its renewable characteristic for a reduction of the emission of pollutants. The present study sought to investigate whether the use of a more viscous fuel (pure biodiesel or mixed with diesel oil), with different chemical physical properties, can bring some damage to the fuel filter and contamination of lubricating oil, components of great importance for a lifetime of an engine. Currently, in Brazil, it is guaranteed by law that at least 8% (B8) of biodiesel is sold in commercially available diesel oils, and it is expected that this percentage will increase. Based on the studies carried out, it is perceived that adjustments are necessary in the components to guarantee the engine life used.
