Abstract
This work proposes to evaluate the economic and technical viability of fertilizer injection by the Venturi device applied to the Conilon (Coffea Canephora) coffee crop in the northern region of Espírito Santo. The region had the largest production of this variety in 2015, but has suffered from the effects of climate change. This caused 2016 production to decline 32.4% compared to the previous year. The water crisis that affected the region from 2014 to 2017 has driven the implementation of methods that optimize the use of water and fertilizers, such as fertigation. From the available alternatives for the injection of fertilizers, the Venturi type injector is presented as a simple and low cost option, however it is considered the injection instrument dependent on the largest number of hydraulic parameters, such as flow and downstream pressures and upstream. Therefore, when it is desired to better exploit the powers of this instrument, it is necessary to evaluate in particular the irrigation system. This study then carried out modeling of the fertigation system, hydraulic tests with the Venturi device, economic and technical comparison of the studied device with other injection methods applicable as centrifugal pump and peristaltic pump. From the calculations and the tests performed it was verified that the initial cost for the Venturi injection system is inferior to the other methods. Despite the superior energy consumption of the Venturi injector system, it proved to be the most viable for operation up to 19 years. After 19 years, the centrifugal pump presents lower accumulated cost, however, the inadequacy to the corrosivity of the fertilizer solution makes it necessary to evaluate the maintenance cost.
