Abstract
In order to develop applications to composites formed by PTFE as a polymer matrix filled with tailings of scheelite as structural elements, an investigation of the wear mechanisms present in the sliding contact between this composite and a metal counterface was performed. For this purpose, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images were obtained in order to analyze the wear tracks on the specimens subjected to pin-on-disk tests for different conditions of sliding speed and contact pressure. The results indicated that the parameters of the tribological test directly influenced the surface damage morphology of the test specimens, since the condition with higher contact pressure and lower sliding speed caused more prominent damage when compared to the other evaluated condition. In addition, evidence of polymer clustering and surface porosity were found on the wear track.
