Abstract
The environmental restrictions and the necessity of a more efficient use of fossil fuels increase the importance of the reuse of thermal wastes and the utilization of the so-called alternative energy sources. In this context, the present paper analyses the energy potential of reuse a fraction of the energy available on the exhaust gases from the Diesel engines of a thermoelectric plant to assist in the production of a combustible gas, through the gasification of a biomass. The study is conducted from a numerical model, developed in the platform of the software EES (Engineering Equation Solver). This model includes the gasification process and the heat recovery system, based on actual data from a thermoelectric plant installed in Suape, Pernambuco. First were analyzed which are the gasification conditions that enables the production of a gas with high energy potential, aiming to increase the global thermal efficiency of the plant through the integration of the gasifier. Among the main results obtained, it was shown that the integration of the gasifier can increase the global efficiency of the thermoelectric plant in almost twenty per cent in relation to the original efficiency of the central.
