Abstract
The great demand for efficient management of material, financial and human resources is a reality in all sectors. In the public transportation sector it is no different. During the last two decades this sector has been experiencing a crisis, where millions of passengers are lost year after year, due to the drop in quality of service, low reliability of vehicles, delays and other factors. It is recognized that maintenance management is a strong ally for quality improvement in both product production and service. In order to improve the service level of the company's maintenance sector and minimize the performance of the vicious circle of failures, this paper proposes to suggest actions to reduce the number of corrective maintenance stops in a public transport company in city of Petrolina-PE. Through the DMAIC methodology, and their respective quality tools, we sought to find root causes for the main defects that affect the bus fleet. It was possible to observe the strong relationship between organizational, human and physical problems, denoting a chain of actions that begin in organizational causes, resulting in human and physical causes.
