Abstract
The high viscosity heavy oil transport is one of the main technological challenges for the oil industry, which is explained by the high loss of load caused by the friction between the oil and the pipe wall. Thus, the present work presents a numerical study for the transport of water and heavy oil in horizontal pipe with a nozzle meter, using the core annular flow technique using the commercial software ANSYS CFX 15.0. The multiphase mixture mathematical model was used for two-phase water-oil flow, 3D, transient, isothermal, with the oil flowing in laminar regime and water in turbulent regime, in which the turbulence model k - ε was chosen. In this perspective, the velocity, the pressure drop and the volumetric fraction for each phase are analyzed in the results. The water surrounding the oil core flowing in the central region of the pipe was observed, reproducing the core annular flow, which resulted in a reduction in the pressure drop. The results were compared with experimental data available in the literature, and a good agreement was found between them.
