Abstract
The grinding is a high-precision manufacturing process and fitting, located at the end of the machining chain. The losses caused by defects and anomalies in this stage are inadmissible, due to the large added value cumulatively in previnous process until flat grinding. The self-excited vibrations, also known as chatter, are considered a critical problem in the grinding process, due to the numerous negative effects that causes, such as low surface quality, inaccurate dimensions and disproportional wear of the cutting tool, among others. This work proposes a method of detecting the occurrence of the chatter phenomenon in the grinding of ABNT 1045 workpieces steels with aluminum oxide grinding wheel using accelerometer sensors and digital signal processing techniques.Experimental tests were performed on a flat tangential grinding machine and the acquisition signal system with a sampling frequency of 2 MHz was used to sample the signals from the grinding process. The workpiece surfaces were inspected visually through high resolution images. The harmonic content of the signals was analyzed to find a relationship with the occurrence of the chatter phenomenon during grindig process. The results indicate that the magnitudes of the frequencies of the vibration signals change in consonance with the occurrence of the chatter phenomenon.
