Abstract

The number of rescuers suffering from musculoskeletal problems in the mobile emergency sectors in Brazil is increasing. The difficulties are found in the ergonomic area, especially for nurses and nursing technicians, who are in direct contact with ambulances and suffer from postural problems and pathologies due to bodily vibrations. As a result of this, the objective of this study is to prove the existence of postural physical disorders in first responders, within the environment of the back cabin of an ambulance, in 4 SAMU units and in a private emergency health network in 5 cities in the interior of the State of São Paulo, in Brazil. To develop this research, 3 phases were implemented. In the first, an identification questionnaire was applied to the 33 interviewees from the 5 cities adopted in the survey. This made it possible to know the age, weight, type of sex, type of profession and BMI (Body Mass Index) of the interviewees of the sample. In the second phase, 33 rescuers from the 5 cities participating in scientific research were also interviewed. However, a Nordic questionnaire on body aches, recognized in the individuals interviewed, was applied at this stage. In the third phase, 4 rescue simulations were filmed in 3 different types of real ambulances, and then a questionnaire on Body Pain Levels was applied to only 5 rescuers who participated in the simulations. The results of the research revealed that the sample has a profile of young adults aged 27 to 41 years, with a high obesity rate. In addition, the vast majority of individuals in the sample are women, 43% of whom are nurses. It has also been proven that physical disturbances from the overwork of first responders are felt in the long term, especially in the lumbar spine, knees and neck. It was verified that 90% of the sample contains some type of osteomusculare disorder related to the work in which it exercises. Therefore, through this research it was confirmed that there are musculoskeletal problems occurring in the cities of Matão, São Carlos, Araraquara, Araras and Ribeirão Preto in the interior of the State of São Paulo. The factors that caused the increase in muscular and skeletal pain that occurred with the rescuers are associated with the high BMI of the individuals, the inadequate postures in the work places, the bad disposition of the equipment and cabinets inside the ambulances and the low functionality of the applied postural trainings rescuers during the working period. In this way, it is essential to change the vehicular structures that are currently operating in the market, and to increase the postural training that first responders receive in their workplace. Only then, ergonomic conditions in the workplace will cause beneficial changes to health professionals.
