Abstract
Additive manufacturing of metals has developed considerably in recent years, being considered one of the pillars of industry 4.0, where digital design is combined with automated production. Among the additive manufacturing processes for metal, the principle of Laser-Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) stands out. This technology consists of sweeping a laser over a bed of metallic powder, melting the material, following a filling path. Among the main problems of the L-GMP process is the appearance of pores and voids, which affect the mechanical strength of the material. This study focused on evaluating the effect of some laser scanning strategies on the relative density of the material, evaluating its porosity. The strategies analyzed were: zigzag with simple lines (long vectors), fixed chessboard, swivel chessboard and chessboard with displacement between layers. The strategies were generated by a commercial software and a research one, the second being an internal development in the group, presenting some differences in relation to the commercial software. The metallic powder chosen for this study was 316L and the samples were manufactured in an Alkimat 200 machine. The samples were sectioned with a special saw and then sanded and polished. Finally, the samples were analyzed under an optical microscope, where the digitized images of the sections of interest were obtained. In order to analyze the porosity and voids of the material, the analysis of relative density was used by measuring the pixel of the collected images. The results reveal the influence of the strategies studied in the appearance of systematic pores and this shows the importance of defining the scanning strategy in the planning of the process with L-PBF of 316L steel.
