Abstract
The cutting turning operation has developed a lot. In many cases, this process approximates the quality obtained in the grinding process, reduces fabrication time without affecting surface quality. Two relevant points can be highlighted in turning operations: the cutting forces and the roughness of the part. The cutting forces in the turning process were studied, as several factors are influenced by it, namely, tool wear, tool breakage, cutting temperature, vibrations, etc. The influence of the three main process parameters was analyzed: cutting speed, feed and cutting depth. Cutting forces were evaluated for a previously defined combination of material and tool under a given combination of cutting parameters. ABNT 52100 steel was used in two forms, annealed and tempered, in order to find the specific cutting pressure, Ks, following a practical methodology. After carrying out the experiments, the Kienzle equation was used to find the values of the constants z and Ks1. The value of Ks1 for the annealed state and for the tempered state were found according to the literature.
