Abstract
The technology to bend metal sheets is commonly used in aerospace, metallurgical, automobile, mechanical and civil construction industries. Therefore, this theme should be studied to minimize the risk of having a mechanical failure, specially in an aluminum alloy. In this study, a device for metal sheet bending is going to be presented, which will have an actuator pressing a punch against an aluminum sheet onto the surface of the die. The die and the actuator will be in the same support frame developed during this study. This study will be guided by some bibliographic references and the simulations using Finite Element Method (FEM) in the project part. The FEM simulation, which is run in Abaqus software, is very useful to determine the forces applied by the punch against the metal sheet. Also, some trials are going to be made and they will be compared with data collected in bibliography. This will be profitable for industrialists once they are going to know which load they might submit in a specific material according to certains conditions. At the end of this work, a machine for bending thin metal beams will be assembled in a support frame with an Arduino system to control the force and speed of the actuator applied onto the bending metal sheet. Hence, the project implemented for metal bending and automated due to the Arduino system has the objective to transform an only mechanical system (that requires human force for the actuator) into an electromechanical and automated system for bending metal beams.
