Abstract
Currently, research related to the manufacture of composite materials reinforced with natural fibers has been increasing due to the possibility of reducing production costs, and enable good mechanical properties compared to synthetic fibers. This work aims at the production of composite materials with continuous and aligned natural fibers to evaluate the relationship between the fibers spacing and tensile strength. The composite materials was processed using the fibers sisal with isophtalic resin. In addition, the samples were characterized with aim know to resistance to stress where were submitted in the tensile test, accordance with ASTM D3039. The specimen were reinforced with one layer of equally spaced fibers (monolayer) where each composite had three spacing of 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2.5mm between fibers. It was also obtained images in microscopy to evaluate the aspect of surface of fracture. The results show a higher resistance obtained by other researchers in composites with short fibers and non-oriented. Microstructural observations revealed an effective adhesion between the fibers and the matrix, which contributed to the mechanical performance of composites with smaller spacing fibers.
