Abstract
The protective gas used in the GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding process has physical and chemical properties that determine the operating characteristics of the electric arc. The shielding gas is used in the process at room temperature, being heated after reaching the welding region. A preheated gas may reveal a variable not yet considered, which opens the possibility of electric arc manipulation. One way to study the arc is through its dynamic response in operation with the survey of characteristic curves, because they indicate, for a given condition, the average values of current and voltage required for its operation. The objective of this work is to raise the influence of the inert gas temperature on the characteristics of the arc, such as the average values of current and voltage, the luminosity and the profile of the electric arc. For the study, parameters such as gas flow, sharpening angle of the electrode and arc length were kept constant only varying the gas temperature for different currents. The results show that the temperature of the gas influences the operation of the electric arc.
