Abstract
This work had as general purpose the development of a project of a fixture device for a piezoelectric dynamometer type 9265B manufactued by Kistler Group, to be used on a ROMI E280 CNC turning center. Tests in an older fixture device used by the Centro de Competência em Manufatura (CCM), allowed to detect improvements which were incorporated into the project later such as the increase of the number of fixing points in the turning machine and the selection of a geometry that could increase the static and dynamic rigidity of the device. Seven possible solutions were enumerated for which the number of fixture points, different materials and different geometries were evaluated.Finite Element Static Analysis was conducted on all components in order to determine which solution would have the lowest maximum displacement value. A merit index was defined to compare the candidate solutions. After obtaining the results a refined analysis was conducted to evaluate the dynamic rigidity of the best solution. The selected solution had a mass of 7.2 kg, offering an easy handling by the operator. The validation of the device is based on the turning of a cylindrical rod of stainless steel, with a range of four cutting depths and the measurement of the forces at each endpoint. The device showed significant gains regarding stability, when analyzing the surface finish after turning. The rigidity gain was evident by the results of experimental modal analysis, in which the new device has frequency vibration modes at higher values when compared to the old device.
