Abstract
The emergence of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) brought great challenges to society, which include the emergency development of the vaccine, combating the high rate of transmission and developing treatment for those infected. The large number of symptomatic infected people show respiratory symptoms and the demand for respirators has become much greater than health systems can handle. Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) is an important alternative that in many cases can avoid the need for intubation and ventilation. Invasive. NIV masks are expensive and become impractical for many hospitals. Therefore, this work aims to present an alternative NIV mask by adapting a diving mask. A low-cost model was selected, and some adaptations were planned. The main change was the design and manufacture of a connector to connect the mask to a mechanical hospital respirator. The connector was manufactured through Additive Manufacturing and the project was tested and approved for use in a COVID-19 patient treatment hospital in Curitiba.
