Abstract
Machinability can be confused with machining, but they are different concepts. Machining is related to the removal of material, while machinability is about the influence of the machining parameters on the process. A machinability test that does not require machining was performed, due to the ease of execution, being the physical properties test proposed by Henkin applied to two alloy steels, two stainless steels and two titanium alloys, in a total of six materials, aiming to know the influence of such physical properties on the machinability parameter. To perform the test, certain units were standardized, as well as the definition of the cutting parameters, aiming at a better understanding and presentation of the results. An analysis was made, both in a general and comparative way among the catalogued materials, of the interaction of physical properties with machinability expressed in cutting speed in conjunction with what the literature says about the machinability of these materials, in order to visualize the influence of these physical properties on the results generated. This analysis made it possible to visualize how the physical properties influence the machinability of the material, expressed in cutting speed.
