Abstract
Present work investigated the effects of welds properties deposited with MCAW tubular wires, aiming the formation of titanium carbides (TiC) in the weld microstructure. For the manufacture of wires, metal sheath of different thicknesses were used in order to promote different welding conditions due to the different fluxes filling rates. As components of the flux, graphite (carbon) and titanium metal powders were used, which was generated from the grinding of chips of Ti6Al4V alloys, generated in the manufacture of orthodontic implants. Weld beads formed by the deposition of the wires with the sheath of smaller thickness showed higher volumetric fractions of TiC and consequently higher values of hardness. The carbides showed the formation of particles with faceted and dendritic morphology with uniform distribution in a ferritic matrix. The volumetric TiC fractions and the microhardness values were proportional to the flux filling rate in the wires.
