Abstract
The wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process is a promising production technique that uses a metal welding process in which the addition material is fused by an electric arc, forming weld beads to produce three-dimensional structures. However, despite recent advances, there are still a number of important challenges to ensure the quality of the parts produced and their application in the industry, such as high production times, trajectory interruption, residual stresses, lower surface finish, and warping, to list some. Several studies indicate that path planning is an important area to correct these problems. This article discusses some of the most important characteristics of path planning for WAAM processes and presents some of the solutions found in the literature in order to point out trends and possible future research.
