Abstract
The advent of technologies contributes to the emergence of new materials, benefiting human development, the expansion of markets, productivity and life expectancy, although it causes deleterious consequences such as the unrestrained consumption of non-renewable energies and the constant irregular disposal of waste after manufacture. The activities of the metallurgical sector are generally associated with an inexpressive commitment to sustainability, which compromises future generations and causes different socioeconomic impacts. In order to recover respect for the environment, the fluids used in manufacturing, normally discarded, were replaced by natural vegetable-based oil. In the present paper, graphene nanoparticles were added and analyzed using MQL and drip techniques in turning AISI 1045 steel. Later, they were compared with the performance of a semi-synthetic oil for industrial use applied in the form of flood, as well as with the dry machining, without cutting fluid application. The results showed that graphene nanoparticles added in vegetable oil significantly reduced the cutting force through MQL lubrication and dripping in relation to dry turning, and statistically had the same performance in cutting force measurements in relation to the flood cutting fluid application.
