Abstract
Additive manufacturing has become popular in recent years due to advantages such as rapid prototyping, use of optimized and complex shapes, reduced unit cost and parts with significantly lower weights. However, the main disadvantages include deformations and generation of residual stresses due to the thermal effects resulting from the process. In view of these disadvantages, this work aims to model numerically through simulations by the Finite Element Method (FEM) the distribution of residual stresses and distortions in parts generated by Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DLMS) in AISI stainless steel 316L, through the MSC Simufact Additive software and evaluate the results obtained through experimental measurements on previously manufactured parts. Parts generated by DLMS were simulated, with experimental measurements of residual stresses using X-ray diffraction for validation. The simulated results were very close to the values measured experimentally using the laser power of 160W, and showed greater differences for the laser power of 190W.
