Abstract
The objective of this work was to monitor thermal errors in a Machining Center. The machine's hot spots were surveyed using an infrared thermometer and a thermographic camera after the machine ran for about 4 hours. After this first analysis, thermocouples were inserted in the hot spots, which, in general, were close to the bearings and nuts of the ball screws. These thermocouples were connected to a LoRa system, which made it possible to collect data on the temperature variation of the machine as a function of time. After this phase, the deformations were measured by an interferometric laser system to correlate the temperatures with the thermal errors. The differences found with the heated machine, in relation to the cold, were around 0.3 mm. With this analysis it is possible to monitor the machine using a technology totally focused on Industry 4.0, with the possibility of performing maintenance in a predictive way, or acting on the positioning corrections of the machine through a compensation model.
