Abstract
In industry, grinding process monitoring is becoming more and more important due to the necessity of more efficient and cheaper processes, together, with high workpiece quality. There are several input parameters in the grinding process, however, material removal rate is the main parameter to evaluate when the process time needs to be shorten. The present study evaluate the influence of the material removal rate on the monitored signals during the external cylindrical grinding process of nodular cast iron, using an aluminum oxide grinding wheel. After the process, the grinding force components were evaluated and correlated with workpiece surface roughness. The results show a strong correlation between the grinding parameters and the monitored signal during experiments. Furthermore, the correlation between the grinding cutting force and surface roughness show an increase on the grinding force components and workpiece roughness when the material removal rate was increased.
