Abstract
Climate change is one of the main problems worldwide, hence, new technologies are being implemented to mitigate such impacts on nature, therefore the percentage of renewable energy use has had a significant increase in the last decade, promoted by policies that encourage the use of these energies. In Colombia, studies are already being carried out on microgrids with or without alternation, in places where several energy sources are available, not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also to reduce consumption costs. The state of Cordoba in Colombia bases its economy mainly on agro-industrial activities, which generates residual biomass with high energy potential, also in this state flow the Sinú and San Jorge rivers and is located in the Colombian Caribbean where there is high solar radiation, which makes interesting studies on solar and hydrokinetic generation. For all this, a study of microgrids was carried out at the University of Cordoba, Monteria, Colombia, performing a simulation and optimization through Homer Energy software, with the most potential energy sources that are present in the place and performing an economic evaluation of zero internal rates of return, where it was concluded that by combining all available sources, it was not possible to obtain economic viability, It was also concluded that the energy produced by biomass gasification has very low operating costs, but high initial investment costs, so it is necessary to develop local technology to reduce these costs. Finally, it was found that the most optimal alternative was the combination of grid energy and hydrokinetic turbine, so studies on the use of this energy source are needed.
