Abstract
Solar energy is a sustainable and growing alternative in Brazil, especially in the Northeast region. One of the applications of solar energy is using solar ovens, which contribute to the reduction of environmental impacts and, have been tested and used in the preparation of foods and even in the sterilization of instruments in rural health clinics. However, it is necessary a study and choose the appropriate material used in the manufacture of solar ovens, so that they reach and maintain the desired temperature, thus improving their thermal insulation. Therefore, this work aims to characterize a ceramic composite that will be used in the manufacture of a solar oven for testing welding electrodes. For this, red ceramic waste (RCW) were used to produce a trace of mortar with low thermal conductivity. The RCW were ground in the ball mill and sieved, later a standard reference of 1: 1: 6 (cement: lime: sand) was defined, with RCV contents of 10%, 20% and 30% being incorporated as a partial replacement of the sand. Tests were carried out to determine the specific mass and grain size of the RCW, chemical composition of the RCW using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF) and the consistency test and the thermal conductivity coefficient of the mortar. The results obtained showed that the RCW was classified as a fine aggregate composition (50% of the average diameters were 0.07 mm). The values found in the consistency test were in accordance with the current standard, being in the range (260 ± 5) mm and the thermal conductivity of the mortar was lower in the RCW content of 30%. Thus, it is concluded that the proposed ceramic material is suitable for the proposed application, as it presented a uniformity of the grain sizes, which is important for filling the walls of the solar oven, in addition, it presented low thermal conductivity giving the greatest thermal insulation to oven and the consistency of the mortar was a validation criterion for its use.
