Abstract
A comparison investigation is proposed in this paper through the study and prediction of the pressure drop along a circular pipe by means of different turbulence models. In this study, the performance of the Prandtl’s Mixing Length and the k-ε model are studied in an incompressible fully developed turbulent pipe flow, where the equations derived in the former are implemented with a MATLAB code, while the latter is carried out by the ANSYS Fluent software. For both models, wall functions are brought into play to improve their accuracy. Furthermore, as a way of comparing and validating the results, the Colebrook’s equation for the Darcy’s friction factor will be taken as a reference.
