Abstract
The tendency of modern structures in general is to provide large free spans in which it implies using more resistant materials to enable a light, slender and economical structural solution in which to be able to predict certain behaviors through different requests. In view of these criteria, long distance belt conveyors employ different belt widths and are widely used in industrial complexes and need to be dimensioned economically as a function of their length. These equipments are constituted in mechanical and civil elements, the latter being executed as metal lattice structures in which they are designed to support different actions. Such supported metal lattice structures, under general design conditions, are dimensioned according to specific criteria of national and international technical standards. Each technical standard follows specific parameters regarding the combination of actions and dimensional analysis of elements submitted to traction and compression. Analyzing these variables, the main objective of this work will be to size metallic structures of long distance belt conveyors with belt width 1800 mm, verifying a comparison according to specific criteria of the technical standards ABNT NBR 8800 (2008), EUROCODE (2010) and AISC / LRFD (2010). Subsequently a parametric optimization will be performed for the constituent structural elements when subjected to static actions.
