A Cosserat Rod model for a cantilever beam that exhibits large displacements

Abstract
A cantilever beam subjected to an external eccentric load is modelled as a Cosserat rod. The results are employed to test the capability of the implementation of the Cosserat rod model to handle large displacement conditions. It is shown that that the present strategy based on the Cosserat theory successfully overcomes the known limitations of other implementations, such as the Modified Cosserat Rod Element (MCRE).
