Abstract
In this paper, a uncertainty quantification of the interface heat transfer parameters and its impact on the temperature output in metal casting solidification is done. Due to little knowledge of these parameter at literature and widely variation in experimental data, it is assumed that these parameters are random variables with uniform distribution. Following this definition, the temperature at each thermocouple is computed not as a deterministic function, but also as a random variable. The statistical characterization shows that the temperature has a non-uniform probability density function, with mean and standard deviation varying over time and space. This information can be useful to estimate temperature ranges, and also macrostructures and microstructures in metal mold casting in vertical upward solidification.
