Abstract
Develop new sources of energy has been one of the goals of the researchers currently in order to obtain a better fuel efficiency, low cost and that causes less damage to the environment. Within this context is the conversion of lignocellulosic material, biomass, into energy. Biomass as fuel presents the disadvantage of having a high moisture content and low calorific value, however, as it is a product that is in abundance, your use generates a saving in energy consumption. The torrefaction process aims to improve the characteristics of biomass, making it hydrophobic, increasing your calorific value, among others. In order to check the effect of torrefaction process on cupiuba material, biomass characterization tests were performed to verify the change of its main energy as calorific value properties and reactivity.
