Abstract
In the present work, we present a methodology for the construction of nonlinear models for the turbulence closure problem using Large Eddy Simulation. Nonlinear models can capture normal stress and are more general than models based on the Boussinesq hypothesis. However, the construction of such models using the Cayley-Hamilton theorem is not completely clear in the scientific literature. Therefore, we present a nonlinear model using the Cayley-Hamilton Theorem including a fourth order isotropic tensor. We study the lid-driven cavity problem and solve the related equations using the Finite Volume Method. The results are compared with physical experiments and with the Germano-Lilly model. The results of the proposed nonlinear turbulence model have a better approximation with the physical experiment than the Germano-Lilly model.
